Warframe Tier List (May 2026) All Frames Ranked for Steel Path

This Warframe tier list is what I built after taking every frame I own through Steel Path, Sanctuary Onslaught, Deep Archimedea, and a couple Temporal Archimedea runs over the last six weeks. The meta in 2026 is a lot more settled than people make it out to be — but a few quiet shifts since The Shadowgrapher dropped have moved frames I wouldn’t have expected.

Here’s what I’m covering:

  • Every relevant frame ranked S through D for Steel Path and endgame
  • A separate tier just for farming (Nekros, Khora, Hydroid hit different)
  • How Helminth subsume completely flips half this list
  • Whether to build Temple, Cyte-09, Uriel, or Follie first
  • The frames I tell new Tenno to chase before they hit MR 16

I learned the hard way that “best damage on paper” doesn’t mean “best frame on your account.” I built Mesa to a 7-Forma god-tier setup before I had Wisp built, and I spent six months getting wrecked in Steel Path Survival because nothing was keeping me alive. Survivability and utility win clears more often than damage in this game.

How I’m Ranking These Frames

Quick context on the rankings before the tables. I’m not ranking by raw damage — that gets you a tier list where Mirage with a Phenmor is “S+” and everything else is junk. That’s not useful.

Three things drive these placements:

  • Steel Path viability — does the frame clear endurance comfortably without a stat-stick build
  • Mission flexibility — can I bring this frame to defense, exterminate, capture, mobile defense, and survival without changing my whole loadout
  • Build accessibility — does the frame need premium arcanes, max Helminth, or 8 Forma to hit S-tier, or does it work at 4 Forma

I’m also assuming Helminth is unlocked. If you’re pre-Helminth, your tiers will look different — most B-tier frames climb a full tier with Roar, Eclipse, or Empower subsumed in.

The 2026 endgame buffs after Update 41 lean heavily into Heat archetypes (Ember, Temple, Chroma) and Overguard generation (Dante, Styanax). That shifts a few placements you might not expect from older lists.

Warframe S-Tier: The Frames That Actually Define Steel Path in 2026

These are the frames I trust to clear any Steel Path mission without overthinking it. If you have any of them properly built, you’re set for endgame.

WarframeTierRoleWhy They’re Here
DanteSSupport / NukeOverguard generation, Slash nuke, post-nerf still complete
Protea (Prime)SSupport / NukeShield Satellites + Blaze Artillery, best all-rounder in the game
Saryn (Prime)SDPS NukeSpores still scale better than almost anything else
Wisp (Prime)SSupport / DPSReservoirs + Sol Gate, mandatory for endurance teams
Mesa (Prime)SDPSPeacemakers delete priority targets like nothing else
Octavia (Prime)SDPS / StealthMallet still scales infinitely, AFK farm queen
Wukong (Prime)SSolo carryCelestial Twin + Defy = the best solo frame in 2026
TempleSHeat DPS / SupportThe 60th frame, Lizzie shreds, Backbeat metronome buffs the squad
Volt (Prime)SSpeed / DPSDischarge stuns + Speed buff, slept on
Gauss (Prime)SDPS / SpeedMach Rush + Thermal Sunder, Heat archetype darling
Nova (Prime)SDPS ampMolecular Prime is still a damage multiplier nothing else matches

Dante is still absurd. They nerfed his Tragedy nuke months ago and he’s still S-tier because everything else in his kit is genuinely complete. Overguard generation alone would be enough — the nuke and the support buffs are basically free.

Protea Prime is my pick for the cleanest all-rounder in the game right now. Shield Satellites keep you alive, Blaze Artillery clears entire rooms while you reload, Dispensary covers your energy, and Temporal Anchor gets you out of bad situations. She doesn’t ask you to babysit anything. The kit just works.

Saryn refuses to leave the top. Twelve years of relevance is not an accident — Spores still scale better than almost any other ability in the game, and the Venom Dose augment turns her into one of the strongest gun buffers in 2026.

Temple is the Heat archetype’s dream frame and she’s earned the S spot fast. Her Backbeat metronome gives the team 50% Ability Efficiency and amplifies all her abilities — that passive alone is borderline broken in long missions. Lizzie functions as both a guitar (yes, really) and a flamethrower with switchable elemental damage. If you skipped her in Techrot Encore, fix that.

Wukong sits up here specifically because he’s the best solo frame. Celestial Twin gives you a free AI clone that copies your weapon and damage, and Defy makes him almost impossible to kill. If you do solo Steel Path runs, Wukong is mandatory.

Warframe A-Tier Frames That Outperform S in Their Niche

These don’t define the meta the way S-tier does, but most of them outperform S-tier units in their specific role. The gap is more about flexibility than raw power.

WarframeTierNicheNotes
Mirage (Prime)A+DPS multiplierHall of Mirrors + Eclipse hits insane damage ceilings
GyreA+Crit DPSStatic crit + Coil Horizon, best Eclipse abuser
Garuda (Prime)A+Boss killerSeeking Talons + Blood Altar, melts bosses
VorunaA+DPS / StealthLasting Trail + Fangs of Raksh, surprisingly tanky
Cyte-09ASniper DPSFirst Sniper-Exalted frame, niche but elite
CitrineADefense / DPSCrit team buff + crystal shield, slept on hard
Titania (Prime)ASpeed clear / ArchwingRazorwing speed-runs everything, mobility queen
Nidus (Prime)ATank DPSGot a Devstream 195 refresh, more relevant than ever
KullervoACrit melee DPSWrathful Advance + Vengeful Rage, Steel Path melee god
CalibanATank / DPSPost-rework actually playable, anti-Sentient niche
SevagothADPS / LifestealDeath’s Harvest + Shadow form, weird but strong
Frost (Prime)ADefense / DPSPost-rework Globe is mandatory in Mobile Defense
Atlas (Prime)ATank / PunchNew moddable Landslide Fists changed everything
Khora (Prime)ADPS / CCWhipclaw still nukes, Strangledome still great
Equinox (Prime)ANuke / HealMaim still clears, Mend keeps the squad alive
LavosADoT / StatusNo energy mechanic is genuinely fun
Harrow (Prime)ACrit supportPenance + Covenant amp, Eidolon king
Gara (Prime)ADefense / DPSMass Vitrify still scales infinite damage
Ember (Prime)AHeat DPSInferno post-buffs, Heat archetype darling
Yareli (rework)A-Mobility / CritPost-rework, Merulina actually viable now
UrielANew frameThe 63rd Warframe, still being figured out
FollieANew frameThe 64th Warframe, ink-based abilities, slept-on

Gyre is the one I keep recommending and people keep skipping. She’s basically a free Eclipse abuser with built-in crit chance and crit damage scaling. If you have her, build her — she’s borderline S in dedicated comps.

Kullervo is the melee specialist nobody talks about. Wrathful Advance gives him bonus crit chance on the next melee strike, and Vengeful Rage straight up turns him into a melee god. Steel Path melee builds live and die by him.

Cyte-09 deserves a callout because she’s the first Sniper-Exalted frame and her kit rewards a totally different playstyle than anything else in the game. She’s niche — she wants you to stay at range and pick off priority targets — but if that’s how you play, she’s S+ in her lane.

The new frames (Uriel from The Old Peace, Follie from The Shadowgrapher) are still settling. Both A-tier on release, both with potential to climb. Uriel’s Tauron Strikes integration with the Operator system is unlike anything else in the game.

The B-Tier and Why It’s Not “Bad” in Warframe

B-tier in Warframe is genuinely playable. The gap between A and B isn’t “good vs bad” — it’s “complete vs needs help.” Most of these frames climb a full tier with the right Helminth subsume.

WarframeTierNotes
Loki (Prime)B+Invisibility still works, kit feels dated next to modern frames
Trinity (Prime)B+Still the best healer for Eidolons, niche elsewhere
Hildryn (Prime)BPure shield tank, Pillage clears status
Chroma (Prime)BVex Armor is still busted in boss DPS, kit feels old
Limbo (Prime)BBest Defense frame mechanically, hated socially
Inaros (Prime)BPost-rework actually has a kit, still tanky as hell
Nezha (Prime)BHalo + Spear, fragile but mobile
Mag (Prime)BMagnetize abuse for snipers, niche but real
Rhino (Prime)BIron Skin + Roar, still a starter god
Vauban (Prime)BBastille + Vortex, slept on for CC
Hydroid (Prime, combat)BPilfering Swarm great for farming, mid for combat
Excalibur (Prime / Umbra)BExalted Blade still works, Umbra is starter-strong
Revenant (Prime)BMesmer Skin makes him unkillable, damage feels low
Ash (Prime)BBladestorm rework hit, still solid stealth DPS
Ivara (Prime)BStealth specialist, Spy mission god
XakuB1-2-Shoot the Eyes Out is still a meme, otherwise slept
StyanaxB+Pure Overguard support, free at MR 4
Zephyr (Prime)BTornado clears, kit feels disconnected
Grendel (Prime)BEat enemies, become bowling ball, niche fun
Nyx (Prime)BMind control + Absorb, dated kit
Valkyr (Prime)BPost-rework, Hysteria still hits

Limbo is the best Mobile Defense frame in the game. He’s also the most-hated frame to have on your squad in pubs. If you want to solo Mobile Defense and never lose the objective — Limbo is borderline S. If you want friends — pick literally anyone else.

Styanax being free for everyone at MR 4 and still hitting B+ is one of the best gifts Digital Extremes has given new players. His Overguard generation lets newer Tenno survive Steel Path before they have arcanes.

C-Tier and Below: The Frames That Need Help

These frames either need reworks or specific niches to feel good. They’re not unplayable — Warframe basically has no truly bad frames after the Caliban and Yareli reworks — but I wouldn’t recommend them as a main.

WarframeTierNotes
Banshee (Prime)C+Sonar amp is real but she’s paper-thin
Oberon (Prime)C+Post-rework better, still feels disconnected
Hydroid (combat only)CWithout Pilfering Swarm, he’s pretty mid
Yareli (no Merulina)COff the surfboard she’s underwhelming
Loki (no Helminth)CPure invisibility kits aged out

There’s no D-tier in 2026. After the Caliban and Yareli reworks landed, every frame in the game is at least serviceable. The “needs reworks badly” bucket is genuinely close to empty.

The Best Farming Warframes for Plat and Resources

This is its own tier list because farming is its own mode. The frames that top this list aren’t the ones that win Steel Path — they’re the ones that print loot.

FrameTierBest For
Nekros (Prime)SUniversal — Desecrate doubles loot from corpses
Khora (Prime)SMob clear with Pilfering Strangledome augment
Hydroid (Prime)SPilfering Swarm augment, AoE loot puddles
Ivara (Prime)ASpy missions and stealth resource runs
Atlas (Prime)AOpen-world rare ore farming with Petrify
Titania (Prime)AFastest fissure runs in the game
Limbo (Prime)ACetus tridolon teralyst farms
Volt (Prime)B+Speed-run capture/exterminate fissures

If you only build one farming frame, build Nekros first. Desecrate works on every mission type, every faction, every map. Khora and Hydroid are mode-specific — Khora wants enclosed spaces, Hydroid wants open puddles.

I learned the hard way that running a non-farming frame to a defense fissure is just disrespecting your own time. Khora + Pilfering Strangledome will out-loot a Mesa with a god-roll Phenmor every single time. The ten extra Forma you sank into Mesa don’t matter if she’s not picking up the drops.

How Helminth Subsume Changes Half This List

This is the part most generic Warframe tier lists miss. Helminth lets you replace one ability on every frame, and the right subsume can move a B-tier frame into solid A-tier territory.

The universal subsumes worth knowing:

  • Roar (Rhino) is a flat damage multiplier. Stick it on any DPS frame whose 1 ability is weak — Mesa, Mirage, Saryn — and watch numbers go up.
  • Eclipse (Mirage) is a damage buff and damage reduction in one. Best on tank-DPS hybrids like Chroma, Nidus, and Atlas.
  • Empower (Vauban) is a one-shot ability damage spike. Best on burst-DPS frames like Garuda and Equinox Maim.
  • Dispensary (Protea) is universal energy. Stick it on any energy-hungry frame — Inaros, Lavos, Ember.
  • Tauron Strikes (Operator) isn’t a Helminth subsume but the Focus expansion from The Old Peace lets you pair Operator ults with frame abilities now. This is changing the meta in real time.

The general rule — if a frame’s tier here feels low and you have a relevant Helminth, that frame probably climbs a tier. Don’t write off B-tier frames before checking what subsuming Roar or Eclipse does to their kit.

Best Frames for New Tenno Just Hitting Steel Path

If you just unlocked Steel Path or you’re pushing into endgame for the first time, build these frames before anything else.

  • Wukong is the new player Steel Path savior. Defy gives you near-invulnerability while you learn enemy patterns. Celestial Twin doubles your damage without you having to aim better.
  • Saryn scales infinitely. Build her at 4 Forma and Spores will still clear Steel Path Survival to rotation C. Don’t worry about perfect rolls.
  • Mesa is the boss-kill specialist. If you struggle with Eidolons, Profit-Taker, or any Steel Path Assassination — build Mesa.
  • Wisp keeps you alive. Reservoirs are the cleanest team buff in the game and you can drop them and forget them.
  • Frost (Prime) is the Mobile Defense and Defense specialist. Post-rework his Globe is mandatory if you don’t have a Limbo built.
  • Styanax is free with the prologue quest, generates Overguard for the team, and clears Steel Path comfortably with a 3-Forma build. The single most efficient new-player frame in the game.

Skip Loki, Banshee, Oberon, and Chroma until you have Helminth unlocked. They’re not bad — they need subsume help to feel good in 2026.

Should You Build Temple, Cyte-09, Uriel, or Follie First?

These are the four most recent frames and the question I see asked weekly. Here’s the framework:

  1. Build Temple first if you don’t already have a Heat-themed DPS or you’re missing a strong support. Her Backbeat passive is a 50% Efficiency boost for the whole squad — that’s a massive squad-wide buff that scales with everyone’s abilities. The 60th frame is genuinely top-tier.
  2. Build Cyte-09 first if you’re a sniper enjoyer or you want to play a totally different DPS playstyle. Her Sniper-Exalted weapon is mod-able and benefits from arcanes. She’s the most niche of the four but she’s elite in her lane.
  3. Build Uriel first if you’ve completed The Old Peace and you want to use the new Tauron Strikes Operator integration. Her kit specifically rewards Operator-frame combo gameplay and that’s a meta direction Digital Extremes is pushing forward.
  4. Build Follie first if you like ink-based ability mechanics or just want the newest frame. The 64th Warframe is still being theorycrafted so her ceiling isn’t established yet. High floor, unknown ceiling.

If you’re picking just one — Temple is the safest pull. Universal team utility, S-tier, doesn’t need any specific build to feel good.

FAQs

Is Wukong still the best solo Warframe in 2026?

Yes. Celestial Twin + Defy is still the cleanest solo combo in the game. Wisp and Saryn are both viable for damage-focused solo play, but Wukong’s “I literally cannot die” survivability with Defy carries solo Steel Path runs that other frames struggle with.

What’s the best frame for Steel Path circuit?

Wukong, Wisp, or Saryn depending on what gets randomed. All three can clear Steel Path Circuit at any difficulty without needing specific builds. Saryn carries hard against infested, Wisp handles every tile with Sol Gate, Wukong is the safe survival pick.

Is Dante still good after the nerfs?

Yes, S-tier still. The Tragedy nuke got reduced, but his Overguard generation, Pageflight buffs, and squad utility are all unchanged. Even after nerfs he feels complete in a way most frames don’t.

Which Helminth subsume is the universal best?

Roar from Rhino. It’s a flat damage multiplier that works on basically every frame in the game and stacks with most external buffs. If you’re picking one Helminth ability to slot on multiple frames, Roar is the answer.

Are the new Protoframes worth using?

Protoframes are cosmetic skins for existing frames plus AI bounty allies — they’re not separate playable warframes. Vena (Garuda Protoframe) and Ryoku (Ash Protoframe) are now Railjack crew options after Jade Shadows: Constellations. They don’t change tier list placements.

Will the Warframe tier list change after TennoCon 2026?

Almost certainly. TennoCon 2026 is July 10-11 and Tau is the next big narrative chapter. New frames, new enemies, new endgame buffs are all rolling in. I’ll re-rank when post-TennoCon dust settles.

Is Caliban actually playable now?

Yes. After the rework he’s solid A-tier, especially against Sentient enemies in The New War content and Tau-related missions. His new kit gives him real damage and survivability where the original was honestly disappointing.

How important are Prime variants?

Important but not mandatory for tier placement. Most Primes give 10-20% better stats and better polarity slots, not new abilities. The non-Prime version of any S-tier frame will still clear Steel Path. Prime is “better,” not “required.”

Wrapping Up

That’s my Warframe tier list for 2026. Dante, Protea, Saryn, Wisp, Mesa, Octavia, Wukong, Temple, Volt, Gauss, and Nova are the S-tier frames defining 2026 endgame, A-tier is where most of the game’s depth lives, and almost no frame is truly bad anymore after Caliban and Yareli’s reworks.

Helminth subsume is the single biggest power multiplier on this list. Roar, Eclipse, Empower, and Dispensary will move your B-tier frames up a tier instantly.

If you’re just hitting Steel Path, prioritize Wukong, Saryn, Wisp, and Mesa. If you’re farming plat, build Nekros, Khora, and Hydroid before anything else. If you’re a veteran chasing the newest frames, Temple is the safest pull, Cyte-09 is the niche pick, Uriel and Follie are still being figured out.
